Lufthansa Technik AI Cuts Engine Inspection Time 60%

Lufthansa Technik unveiled an AI-powered engine inspection system that reduces turnaround time for borescope inspections by 60%.

AI Engine Inspection

The system uses computer vision algorithms trained on millions of engine images to identify potential issues with greater consistency than human inspectors.

“This doesn’t replace our technicians—it augments their capabilities,” explained Lufthansa Technik CEO Soeren Stark. “They can focus on complex decisions while AI handles routine pattern recognition.”

Several other MRO providers have expressed interest in licensing the technology, potentially establishing it as an industry standard.

The development comes as airlines face increasing pressure to improve maintenance efficiency amid ongoing technician shortages.
